Process
I nearly didn’t enter this week. Monsters generally aren’t my vibe. But I started noodling on the idea of cute instead of scary, and I thought I could come up with something. These little slug creatures are inspired by a cross between the Sesame Street aliens (yip, yip, anyone?) and the slugs in Flushed Away (the best part of that movie, by far). Once I started doodling, I knew I could get something I’d be happy with. I made my kids giggle with the lips and the eyeballs. After I got 6 motifs drawn up, the rest was just placement, textures, and shading. You can enjoy following my design process in the short video below.
