Process
In a somewhat open-ended challenge this week, Spoonflower asked people to pick a time period and design something for that era. I actually made this design a few months ago when I was just doodling and playing around. I first designed some trees made out of peacock feathers, but the longer I looked at them, the more they looked like eyes to me. 😆 So I redesigned the center of these art nouveau doodles and played around with the color til I felt they “popped.” Art nouveau was at its peak around 1900 in Paris. It’s viney and natural and generally lovely. I have been to Paris once, as a high school graduation present from my sister, and you can still see remnants of this design fad all over the city.
Voting
I bet this week will see a HUGE variety of designs, because you can just about do anything with this Time Machine Challenge. I wonder how many other people will choose Art Nouveau. In any case, you can hunt through the entries and vote for me here at the Spoonflower Time Machine Design Challenge Page. Voting runs til next Tuesday at 3 PM, and I’ll post the results next Thursday. Thank you!!
