Another Sheets Challenge
Spoonflower once again asked us to design a pattern that would look good on sheets. The funny thing is, they also have voters view the design on a sheet set mock up. It’s nearly impossible to see the details, thus the smaller designs that work better on sheets don’t do well on challenges. So designers end up making large-scale designs that will catch the eyes of voters. That’s what I did!
Actually, my first design was inspired by a picture my mom took on a walk in my neighborhood. We have some wildfire smoke in the area, so the hills are a dusty blue. It’s quite pretty.
Spoonflower specified the color palette for this challenge. Very nature-y. They wanted designs grounded “in the earth” …see below…
They allowed lighter tints of the main colors, but no added colors. I will show you my design for the smoky hills, but it isn’t what I went with for the challenge entry (even though I like the design better…I just knew it wouldn’t be eye-catching enough.)
As much as I like how this turned out, I started sketching other options to see if something else “popped.” You can see how it went…
And here’s how it looks on the sheets mock up…
